School counselors work to support students in the following ways:
- Listen to students' concerns about academic, emotional or social problems
- Help students process their problems and plan goals and action
- Mediate conflict between students and teachers or other students
- Facilitate student achievement
- Improve student behavior and attendance
- Help students develop socially
- Assist in child protection reports
- Work with new students and families during the enrollment and orientation process
- Manage 504 plans
- Lead classroom SEL lessons (ex. respect, bully prevention, conflict resolution, problem solving)
- Facilitate small group social skill building
