School counselors work to support students in the following ways:

  • Listen to students' concerns about academic, emotional or social problems
  • Help students process their problems and plan goals and action
  • Mediate conflict between students and teachers or other students
  • Facilitate student achievement
  • Improve student behavior and attendance
  • Help students develop socially
  • Assist in child protection reports
  • Work with new students and families during the enrollment and orientation process
  • Manage 504 plans
  • Lead classroom SEL lessons (ex. respect, bully prevention, conflict resolution, problem solving)
  • Facilitate small group social skill building
