The Scoop is McKinley's student news team. Students in 5th grade, apply in the fall to be on The Scoop. Students fill out an application and the team is chosen by taking multiple things into consideration...the application, the student's overall responsibility shown at school, and if the student already has multiple leadership opportunities during their day (we try to spread these opportunities around to students.)

The Scoop team meets once a week and does a live broadcast of a variety of things including what's going on at McKinley, jokes, the weather and staff and class interviews. The students rotate jobs so that each person gets a chance to do each segment and each student gets a chance to be the lead anchor. This activity is student-led and the student's get to choose how they do things and evaluate how things are going so that adjustments can be made.
